A Brief History – During World War I, American volunteers from all parts of the country filled the newly formed
flying squadrons. In one squadron a wealthy lieutenant ordered medallions struck in solid bronze carrying the squadron emblem for every member of his squadron. He himself carried his medallion in small leather pouch
around his neck. |

Shortly after acquiring the medallions, the pilot's aircraft was shot down behind enemy lines and he was immediately
captured by a German patrol. In order to discourage his escape, the Germans took all of his personal identification except for the small leather pouch around his neck. In the meantime, he was taken to a
small French town near the front. Taking advantage of a bombardment that night, he escaped. However, he was without personal identification. With great difficulty, he crossed German lines and no-man's land
making it to a French outpost. Unfortunately, saboteurs who masqueraded as civilians and wore civilian clothes had plagued the French in this sector. Not recognizing the young pilot's American accent, the
French thought him a saboteur and made ready to execute him. Just in time, he remembered his leather pouch containing the medallion and showed it to his would-be executioners. His French captors recognized
the squadron insignia on the medallion and delayed long enough to confirm his identity. Instead of shooting him, they gave him a bottle of wine. |

In that spirit, what other "unit" or group would you rather be associated with? Who has shown more
valor than Jesus Christ in laying down his life to save us all? What better form of inspiration could there be than the cross? |

We may not need a coin to identify us as friend or foe today but we do need reminders sometimes of who we are, what we stand for
and are we living, as Jesus wants us to. The "Live the Challenge" Coin is not about guilt, its purpose is to lift up your heart and mind to the purpose and wisdom of God's teaching and remind you of them
throughout your day. How many times do we get distracted with our fast pace of life? Does the stress of work, traffic, school or kids get to you? Do you burst out with words or have thoughts that aren't very
Christian? We all do, after all we are human. By simply having your "Live the Challenge" Coin in your pocket or purse, it will be a reminder throughout the day when you reach for some change or a key that
God is with you, "Do not fear" and "Live the Challenge" of being a good Christian. This bronze, die struck coin even makes a different sound from other coins when in your pocket. Let's face it; it's not easy
to live a Godly life in our world with temptations at every turn. Your "Live the Challenge" Coin is a small but important reminder for you, a step in the right direction; toward heaven. |
